I met Kelvin via What’sapp.
A random message that started with “Hey bro,”
I like these sort of messages.
I was a little bit excited and at the same time, shooting a wedding in Bandung, Indonesia. Kelvin wanted to do something special and propose to his girlfriend. Kelvin lives in Indonesia and Devina is in China, however they met in Sydney. I got to know a little bit more about their relationship and we started creating some concepts together about the plans for the proposal. I said to Kelvin that not all shoots always go to plan, which can be a good thing because that means we can have some unexpected surprises. I think I was just as excited and nervous as he was. (and as long as she doesn’t say no then, we’re all sweet!)
Devina knew we were going to take some portraits around Sydney, she knew that we were going to have some fun and surprises, she just didn’t know what was going to happen. I picked them up from their hotel in Sydney and I prefaced the day by saying that “let’s see where today takes us”
We arrived to the first location, and sneaky Kelvin decided to pop the QUESTION first go! Devina said yes and was so ecstatic! Kelvin was so relieved! After the shoot we had breakfast and started talking all things weddings. I wanted to learn more about them as a couple so I probed. They reciprocated.
As we shot the day away, I felt like I had photographed friends whom I had known for years. It wasn’t work. It wasn’t a chore. It was pleasure.
